Rachel Alexandra was a chestnut Thoroughbred racehorse who gained worldwide recognition for her incredible speed and achievements on the racetrack. Born on January 29, 2006, in Kentucky, Rachel Alexandra was bred by Dolphus Morrison and named after the granddaughter of his wife. She began her racing career as a two-year-old in 2008, winning three of her four starts that year.

                  

However, it was in 2009 that Rachel Alexandra truly made history. She won the Kentucky Oaks by a record 20 ¼ lengths, becoming the first filly to win the race by such a wide margin. She then went on to win the Preakness Stakes, beating the top colts in the field, including the Kentucky Derby winner, by a length.

Rachel Alexandra's incredible accomplishments earned her numerous awards, including the Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year in 2009, making her the first filly to win the prestigious award in over 80 years.
